If a particular page on an Internet site does not load for some reason or if a link is not working, the visitor shall see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, that could make the visitor leave your Internet site. A solution in such a case is a function offered by some hosting providers - the option to set your own customized error pages which shall have exactly the same design as your Internet site and which can contain any images or text that you'd like based on the particular error. There are 4 standard errors that could occur and they involve these particular so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your browser sends a bad request to the server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see a webpage, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a specific page; and 404, in case a link that you've clicked leads to a file which does not exist. In each of these cases, visitors will be able to see your custom content as opposed to a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Web Hosting

You'll be able to set up custom made error pages for any of your Internet sites easily if you use any of our web hosting. This can easily be done via the Hosted Domains part of the Hepsia Control Panel, provided with all accounts and once you go there, you can set your customized pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You must upload the files to your account in advance and enter the links to them during the process. This function may be de-activated anytime and the options you will be able to pick from are a conventional page from our system or a default Apache server page. Personalized error pages could be set with an .htaccess file too. The file should be placed in the domain or subdomain folder and it should incorporate some system code and links to the pages. If you are not tech-savvy, you may copy the entire content required for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All semi-dedicated packages which we offer support personalized error pages and it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks inside your Hepsia hosting Control Panel to use this feature. The option can be found in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel where you'll have to enter the links to the custom-made files via simple drop-down menus and an easy to work with interface. Of course, you must upload them inside your account before that. If you don't want to use this function at some point, you can disable it just as fast and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable when your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to enable the customized error pages. The file should contain a specific line of code as well as a link for every error type and you may find an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
